Online Gatherings Reimagined — We are currently reimagining our online gatherings, including Bruchim’s Chaverim (“Friends” in Hebrew), special events, and Brave Voices (a six-session pilot program that provided a space for deep sharing). We’ll share details about upcoming programming in our August newsletter. Expect some changes, and new opportunities for Jewish people and interfaith families seeking support, answers and friendship. We will also be expanding programming for Bruchim’s allies, regardless of religious affiliation or background. Please stay tuned!
Capacity Building Underway — We’re pleased to announce that Bruchim is working with small nonprofit expert Erik Hanberg to develop and strengthen the skills and processes that will help our org take flight. Erik is author of four highly-regarded books on small nonprofit management, including The Little Book of Boards. Bruchim is extremely fortunate to have Erik working closely with us as our consultant for the next several months.
Chaverim Paused for July — Bruchim’s Chaverim will not meet in July, so that our leadership can have an extended meeting to focus on our capacity building work. As always, we’re available for individual consultation with those who need support.
Blocked & Reported Episode 168: Just the Tip of the Circumcision Debate — On June 10, this 10K-100K monthly-listener podcast devoted an hour-long episode to the circumcision debate which included a lengthy discussion of the intersection between anti-circumcision activism and antisemitism. Bruchim’s Eliyahu Ungar-Sargon was extensively profiled for his work combatting individual instances of anti-circumcision rhetoric that crossed the line. Bruchim also received mention. Despite a rather long lead up, we think journalists Jesse Singal and Katie Herzog and did a terrific job. For those who are impatient, the conversation gets underway at the 14:44 mark.
E2 — In this short video, Eliyahu Ungar-Sargon and Eric Clopper sit down to discuss a rift that occurred between the two of them when Eliyahu publicly denounced Eric’s one-man show, “Sex & Circumcision: An American Love Story,” which took place on the Harvard campus in 2018. Now the pair come together to unequivocally denounce antisemitism. While this is not a Bruchim project, we’re sharing it because it highlights how genital autonomy activists with different approaches can find common ground.
